I reported at the Mumbai campus well before time. Moved around in the campus for a few minutes and then headed to the room number mentioned in my application abstract (admit card).
Pre-Interview test was a written one that was of 50 marks, comprising of two questions (45 minutes). Each question to be answered had four alternatives to choose from. One question required us to comment critically on a current issue and the other required us to write a story.
I chose to comment critically on - #MeToo campaign being utilized to falsely target a few male celebrities. Wrote 2-3 pages.
Next, to write a story 4 sentences were given. We had to choose any one sentence of the 4 and use it as the first sentence and complete the story. I chose the sentence, "Are you from Africa?" the passenger asked Angela.
Wrote a 3 page story.
For the personal interview, I headed to another room, in another block.
The interview panel comprised of 3 people. One aged man (AM) , one woman (W) in her mid-late twenties, and a man (M) in her mid thirties. The panel took turns asking questions.
AM - Introduce yourself.
Me- *answered*
AM - So you have done your graduation from Bhopal?
Me- *explained that my college in Mumbai was affiliated to a university in Bhopal*
AM- Okay so tell me what you want to do if you get in this course?
Me- *explained untidily how some factors lead to me not utilizing the time in my graduation years properly and that I would want to rectify that mistake at TISS* AM was not convinced yet moved on.
Now it was the chance of the lady in the panel to ask.
W- There are protests going on in TISS? Do you know why? Do you think the students are right?
*She was referring to the SC/ST protests against repeal of their fee waiver.
Me-*explained that if the institution decided to repeal the waiver, there has to be some rational behind it and added that I was unaware of the intricacies of the situation and thus I would refrain to pick sides*
W - *Explained situation in detail to me* Now what do you think?
Me - *Couldn't answer convincingly*
W - Okay. Forget about this. Tell me if you feel that caste based reservations should be given only according to caste or the financial status of the individual must taken into consideration while providing reservations?
Me - * Agreed with her that reservations must take into consideration the financial status of the individual and provided some examples of how economically well-off people sometimes take unfair advantage of reservations*
She seemed convinced.
Now if was the middle aged man's turn,
M- Do you think the BJP and Shiv-Sena have worked satisfactorily in development of Mumbai?
Me- *Explained how investment in infrastructure has been poor and the government has not done a satisfactory job*
W - *seemed not very impressed.*
AM - Okay, you can leave. Good luck! Do you have any questions for us?
Me - How did I perform?
AM - Good.
*Thanked the panel and left.*
Preparation - 1/5
Performance - 1.5/5
